Childhood's End has much to do with 'religion'.

Above is the character Karellen, the only character to appear throughout the entire novel and television series, 'Childhood's End'.

Karellen = 2+1+9+5+3+3+5+5 = 33
Thirty-Three = 2+8+9+9+2+7+2+8+9+5+5 = 66

Childhood's = 3+8+9+3+4+8+6+6+4+1 = 52
End = 5+5+4 = 14
Childhood's End = 66

Again, this story has a lot to do with religion (released in '53, religion = 53), and how their can be only one true religion, and humanity needs to come to terms with that.  The characters red and black colors, may remind you of the Catholics, and his insistence on only one true religion, may reminds you of Christians who have come to your door, soliciting their beliefs.

Notice that Karellen is the leader of the Overlords on Earth.

The author has a connection to Freemasonry, the gang that has taken over religions of the world.
