44 53 | Trail Blazers @ Clippers, March 4. 2015, Curiosities

Tonight match up struck me curious because both of these teams were established 44-years ago, for the 1970 season.  So were the Cavs, bringing the league to 17 total teams.  It should be noted the Clippers were originally the Buffalo Braves.
  • Clippers = 3+3+9+7+7+5+9+1 = 44
  • Trail Blazers = 2+9+1+9+3+2+3+1+8+5+9+1 = 53
    • Cavs, Clippers and Blazers established 44-years ago
    • NBA = 14+2+1 = 17
    • 17 Teams for the '40-'41 season
The Final Score of the game is quite curious, especially considering this was the Clippers 62nd game of the year, and they finished with 93 points.  By the end of the season, this will be remembered as a big game, in which the Blazers won in overtime after a late fourth quarter comeback to tie.

In terms of stat lines, notice that Lillard went 1-13 from the field, ending his streak of more than fifty games with at least ten points scored.  Oddly enough, he grabbed 18 rebounds, an incredible amount for a point guard.  I honestly think he was instructed to go 1-13 from the field, as a tribute to Chris Paul, his opponent this evening.

The game was touted as a matchup between two of the league's best point guards, and in this game, Lillard had a near career worst while Paul played well, despite losing.  It should be noted that Lillard looked as though he wasn't trying, by taking poor shots and making bad decisions throughout the night.  He did the same thing last year in the playoffs versus the 'Spurs'.
  • Spurs = 19+16+21+18+19 = 93
It was Lillard's 223rd NBA Game...
