Sunday I was at Summer Jam for 40 minutes, & as enjoyable as much of this music can be, (though I only saw part of Tech N9ne's set..would have preferred to catch more of the others..) but music is ritualistic by nature, live music has always been for spiRITUAL purposes, & these motherfuckers are all about using charisma to lead the crowd/fans.
Even if you couldn't see the performers, you could see the radio number & logo, biggest feature of the stage, & the duality red & blue flashing lights in peculiar patterns...
I was considering the programming potential for this type of light show, & then suddenly Tech N9ne & Krizz Kaliko split to separate sides of the stage, talking about how they were gonna go through the crowd & move the crowd members who were sitting on their asses. Then Tech got the left side of the crowd to point at the right side of the crowd & chant "Fuck that side! Fuck that side!" repeating after him.
Krizz did the exact same thing with the right side chanting "Fuck that side!" at the left.
Of course nobody left the show with disdain for those who had been on the opposite side of the arena, it wasn't a serious tone, but it was a beautifully laid out encapsulation of how easy it is to lead people subconsciously.
Just use that charisma, align with some simple commonality (in this case, where their tickets designated that they sit...kinda like where your parents lived when you were born & raised...) & pit them against another group that's insinuated to have a commonality against your group. Red vs. Blue. Thought it was interesting for sure.
