ReplyDeleteAlso, keep in mind that Kubiak became only the fourth head coach to win the SB his rookie season. Were NY to win then Macado or whatever would be only the 5th. Perhaps there are numbers for this stat. The Colts, ironically, were the first to do it in 1970, then the 49ers with George Seifert, then the Bucs with Jon Gruden the year he was traded from the Raiders, then Kubiak last year.

Also of note, Kubiak and Gruden had been head coaches before for other teams, but won the SB their first year with that particular team. The 70 Colts and 89 49ers had true rookie head coaches. So the Giants would be just the 3rd team to win with a true first year head coach. And its been **18** years.
