When calculating dates, most generally use a calculator like that at http://www.timeanddate.com or manually calculate for the extra day in each leap year. Some count the last day of any end date in this total and some do not.
As for the numeric day of each year, that is also taken into consideration depending upon whether or not it is a leap year or not... something like this chart for 2016:

Since I don't think you meant either of these and Further, sometimes adding the components of a single date employ methods like that used for numerology, so no end-date or calculator is needed (like adding 3/23/2000 might be like 0+3+2+3+2+0+0+0=10, 3+23+20+0=46, 3+23+2+0+0+0=28, or 3+23+0+=26... or some other combination thereof).
