In the history of Stevens Pass, the most infamous tragedy came on February 23, 1910, when two trains became stalled due to heavy snow and avalanches in the mountains.  The trains remained stalled where they were for six days, when another avalanche hit, knocking cars from the tracks and killing a reported "96" people.
