As someone who often decodes '33', I'm wondering where the '33' is with the new proposed PAT rule for the NFL. Do the math with me.
- The End Zone is 10-yards
- The New PAT is at the 15-yard line
- On a PAT snap, the ball is typically hiked back six yards
- 10+15+6 = 31
- If the ball were snapped back 8-yards, it would be a 33-yard attempt
So after doing the math, I want to know why there is all this talk of a 33-yard attempt, when on average, it should be a 31-yard. Is it just another opportunity to broadcast the number 33? Are kickers now stepping back an extra two yards? What is up?
