14 people, carrying 41?  A ski trip you say, with 39 skiers and two drivers?

Ski = 19+11+9 = 39

You could say they were in the 'kill' zone being in Kita Shiga.

Kita = 11+9+20+1 = 41 (Number on the bus)
Shiga = 19+8+9+7+1 = 44 (Kill = 44)

Notice also that the bus crashed near the two of Karuizawa.

Karuizawa = 2+1+9+3+9+8+1+5+1 = 39

The point of stories like this, is to instill fear in worry in the tens of millions who frequent the mountains and skis.  This will make moms worry all throughout the world.  That's why they do it.  After all, why do you need to know about a car accident in Japan?
