In September and October of 2013, British television, courtesy of Channel 4, and U.S. television, courtesy of the National Geographic Channel, both released docu-dramas about what a "national blackout" scenario might look like in their respective countries. These television specials followed Janet Napolitano's remarks, during her resignation speech, that a cyber-9/11 is inevitable, and could take down the national power grid.
In November of 2013, the U.S. Federal Government and hundreds of private energy companies participated in a national power grid down drill. Since then, our media has been reporting on the possibility of the power grid going down due to solar flares; meteors; electromagnetic pulse; and severe weather. Just yesterday, the mainstream press also released details of a sophisticated attack on the California power grid last April 16, 2013. Until yesterday, this story had been kept under wraps.
