ReplyDeleteWinfield was born in Kansas, Oklahoma. His family relocated to California's San Joaquin Valley when he was 6 years old. This move was inspired by the "Okie migration" of the 1930s in which many midwest farming families, devastated by the Dust Bowl, headed west to California to start over.
