Celebrating 66 Years of the Doomsday Clock

66 years ago, 1947, on a day unknown, the Doomsday Clock was revealed in Chicago, IL, home of the 60606.  The clock was last changed on December 14, 2012, to the time of 11:55 pm.  This was the same day as the Sandy Hook School shooting.  The fifth annual Doomsday Clock Symposium took place 11 months later, on November 14, 2013, in which a global debate took place on possible catastrophes.

The purpose of the clock was to measure how close we are to a major catastrophe, in symbolic terms.  The clock was invented at the University of Chicago and has been maintained by the Science and Security Board.

What one wonders, is how significant is the symbolism of 5 until midnight?
